Interoute extends its network as Internet demand in Poland continues its dramatic growth - 17 May 08
Poland’s fast growing economy supported by increased bandwidth from Interoute as Internet penetration exceeds 42 per cent
17 May 2008 – Interoute, owner operator of Europe’s largest next-generation network owner, today announced it has opened a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Kraków. The PoP allows Interoute to offer a diverse range of services including high capacity Ethernet, VPN services, and advanced VoIP services over connections up to 10Gbps to companies in the Malopolska region.
With internet usage in Poland increasing by 208 per cent between 2000 and 2007 the new PoP will help meet the capacity. The Internet in Poland is well developed in the business sector and has penetrated the consumer and household sector. Traditionally, there has been a low level of e-commerce due partly to the poor quality of existing fixed-line telephone networks and the high costs of accessing the Internet. However, the business community and the government are committed to removing the bottlenecks to further growth of e-commerce. Currently there are 10,000 commercial Web sites, and 80 percent of businesses in Poland use the Internet on a daily basis. Fifty-seven percent of companies have their own Web sites, and 320 companies are selling through the Internet.
Jan Louwes, Interoute’s EVP of Sales and Marketing said “Poland, like much of Eastern Europe, is a fast growing market and we are seeing a huge demand for high quality telecommunication services here. The launch of the new PoP in Kraków will provide local businesses with direct access to the most advanced network services available in Europe. This will provide vital future capabilities for companies operating in this strong and quickly growing market.”
The PoP is already operational and serving customers and Interoute has been chosen as a service provider by ATM S.A., which is one of the most experienced Polish System Integrators. “The opening of the Interoute PoP in Kraków has enabled us to complete the construction of our ATMAN network backbone using the 10Gbps broadband data transfer capabilities,” said Urszula Mielcarz, Key Account Manager in the ATMAN Telecommunications Operators Department, ATM S.A. “We chose Interoute because of its strong position in the international telecommunications services market as well as its broad experience in completing large data transfer projects. We felt Interoute was best placed to satisfy our needs and meet our high SLA demands with their world class customer service standards.” Interoute has invested heavily in Poland and the emerging markets and this PoP will build on the success of the existing Interoute PoP which is already operating in Warsaw.
Earlier this year Interoute announced a deal to provide 100Gb of Ethernet bandwidth to Telekom Srbija, the latest in a number of agreements Interoute has secured across central and Eastern Europe over recent months.#
